Curriculum of BHIS

The ultimate goal at BHIS, is to create new knowledge, fostering innovation and transmitting it to students. The curriculum is multi- dimensional in its approach. While the curriculum for Grade 1 to VII is designed in association with Billanook College, Melbourne, adequate attention has been given to incorporate Indian knowledge base and value system. Grade 6 onwards the thrust is around the CBSE Curriculum/IGCSE curriculum, facilitating integrated development of knowledge, skills and thinking. We follow an integrated curriculum wherein all the disciplines and subjects are interwoven and one concept reflects upon all the areas of the curriculum.

The teaching learning transaction of the curriculum takes place keeping in mind the Bloom’s Taxonomy, the Multiple Intelligence theory, the VARK Model, Neuroscience & Brain research theory, digital age & globalization & thematic learning.

It follows an integrated & a multi-disciplinary approach towards the curriculum wherein all the subjects are interwoven and one concept reflects upon the varied areas of the curriculum. It is transacted in such a way that the learners ascend from LOTS (Lower order thinking skills) to HOTS (Higher order thinking skills). Prediction of situations, giving twists to the story, suitable title to the content, analysis of an unknown situation, a new ending to the story are some of the tasks undertaken to ensure thorough grasping of the concepts to strengthen decision making, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Experiential learning is the best method to involve active participation of students to experience scientific concepts. Therefore, learning by doing is focused in science classes.

Children are provided with situations where they apply their understanding of the concept and create role plays, stories, jingles. To take an example, when studying about animals and their extinction, endangered animals, poaching etc. they create posters, role plays etc. to create awareness about the importance of animals. Similarly, when studying about the animal or plant adaptations, they create / design their own plant/ animal with different adaptations to survive.

Children are also encouraged to explore through nature walks, connection with real life. Debates, quiz, presentations and other group activities are the regularly conducted in the class. Learners are also regularly updated with the recent scientific discoveries and explorations.
